Step by Step Guide to Cleaning your Odorox® Hydroxyl Generator

Posted by Tom McArdle on 4/29/20

Keeping your Odorox® Hydroxyl Generator clean and well maintained is the best way to ensure you get the most life from your machine. Since ease of use is one of the best features of a Hydroxyl Generator, making sure the ability to plug them in and let them run is always available. Regular cleaning needs to be done to the machine each time you finish a job - and the best part is, the cleaning won’t take more than 10 minutes.

Here’s the step by step instructions on how to clean your Hydroxyl Generator.

How to Clean your Odorox® Hydroxyl Generator

  1. Gather all the materials that you will need to begin your cleaning process. You will need:
    • Isopropyl Alcohol
    • Spray bottle
    • The glasses that come with the machine
    • Phillips screwdriver
    • Lint free cloth
    • Latex gloves
  2. Start by turning off the power supply. Whenever you are cleaning or performing maintenance on your generator, make sure it is not plugged in.
  3. Wearing your gloves, mix 10 parts water to 1 part alcohol in the spray bottle.
  4. Unlock both side panels. Depending on the machine that you have, this could require a key or your machine may have clips on each panel.
  5. Press down on the panels and pull - they will pop off the machine.
  6. If necessary, remove the second panel (not found in all models) with the phillips head screwdriver. You may see a small plastic hose. This is fine - do not detach the hose from the machine. We will make sure this is replaced properly when we put the machine back together.
  7. It’s now time to remove the UV optics from inside the machine. The harness that is holding the optics will not twist. Instead, firmly grip the harness with one hand and one optic with the other. “Wiggle” the optic and it will unplug from the harness.
  8. Remove each optic from the machine.
  9. Clean each optic with the water and alcohol spray you put in the spray bottle. Spray each optic and wipe them down with the lint free cloth. Set these aside to dry. Your latex gloves and lint free cloth will prevent any fingerprints or dust from landing on the optics. This is a good thing - smudges or dust particles can diminish the performance of the optics.
  10. Using the same cloth and solution, spray the inside of the machine. Wipe down each side and allow it to dry. Repeat on the outside.
  11. It’s now time to replace the optics. Reverse the process you used when removing them from the harness. Gently clamp the optics back into the chamber and reconnect to the harness with the same “wiggle” action. Remember - the harness does not twist!
  12. Return the side panels onto the machine. It’s important to feed the plastic hose through the appropriate side before you secure it into place.
  13. Return the second panel (if appropriate) to its place and secure with the philips screw.
  14. Test the optics. Power on the machine, and make sure it is next to an air mover. Turn the generator to “high” to light all three optics.
  15. Put on your UV Glasses and peek inside the generator. All three optics should be lit. If not, you have not reconnected them properly to the harness. Repeat step 11.
  16. Replace the side panels and lock them in place with the attached clips.
  17. Give the outside of the machine one final wipe down, and you’re good to go!

This entire process should take about 10 minutes, and will extend the life of your Hydroxyl Generator, and keep it looking great for every  job! If you need assistance, or require the help of your machine’s manual, you can find it on
